Ideal Customer Archetype (ICA)

The individual inside a target account whose problem, mandate, and buying psychology make them the right entry point for a conversation.

[01]What It Means

Where the ICP defines the company, the ICA defines the human: their role, what they are measured on, the risk they carry personally, the language they use for the problem, and what makes them answer an unknown caller. In European enterprise sales the ICA is often not the most senior person, but the one whose quarter is affected.

[02]Why It Matters

Message relevance is decided at the ICA level. The same account, approached through the wrong archetype, produces polite deferral rather than a meeting. Calibrating the ICA per market is what separates a localised motion from a translated one.

[03]Where It Goes Wrong

Targeting by seniority alone, so every sequence lands with a C-level inbox that never reads it.Reusing US archetypes in DACH, where procurement and works councils change who really decides.Ignoring the internal blocker, the person who cannot say yes but can say no.
