Account Executive (AE)
The seller who owns qualified opportunities from first meeting to signature.
[01]What It Means
The AE runs discovery, builds the business case, maps the buying group, handles procurement and legal, and forecasts the deal. In complex European sales they coordinate presales, legal, and local partners rather than selling alone.
[02]Why It Matters
AE capacity is the most expensive constraint in a go-to-market. Protecting it with real qualification is usually worth more than adding another seller.
[03]Where It Goes Wrong
Loading AEs with prospecting, which halves selling time and blurs accountability.Hiring AEs before pipeline exists, so ramp is spent on cold outreach. No local-language AE in a market where contracts are negotiated in that language.
