We were excited to see so many high-quality events happening across Europe this year, especially in the fields of hashtag#softwaredevelopment, hashtag#qualityassurance, and hashtag#SaaS.
Here are our key takeaways from WeAreDevelopers (applicable for any other event, too):
โฝ Schedule meetings in advance (We recommend Cal.com, Inc.): Make as many appointments as possible and doable for the size of your team on-site, but be prepared for about 20% to be rescheduled for various reasons.
โฝ Gather contact information: Always ask for a phone number to quickly find people and adjust meeting times if necessary, and get an email address to send a follow-up message immediately after the meeting. Think of hashtag#GDPR too.
โฝ Use e.g. Linktree on your business cards and smartphone: Include important links, such as your LinkedIn, scheduler, website, pitch deck, and ROI calc, so you don’t waste time searching.
โฝ Prepare yourself mentally and physically: Events are demanding, so take care of yourself. Consider going to a sauna before the event and meditating in the morning to stay calm and focused.
โฝ Take notes on paper or an iPad: Apps like Goodnotes/Nebo are great for writing notes. Your prospect will appreciate knowing what you are writing, and they can easily explain a diagram or technical drawing if needed.
โฝ Automate when appropriate: Tailor your approach to each potential customer. Focus on ICP prospects rather than spreading yourself too thin.
โฝ Be attentive and courteous: Listen carefully, ask questions, thank them for their time, and communicate realistic deadlines for follow-ups.
โฝ Attend keynotes, discussions, and after-parties: These are excellent opportunities to learn more about your industry and to network.
